Job Description:

To work in a senior technical capacity, delivering high-quality engineering project deliverables related to power system Protection Control (PC) for Transmission Distribution, Renewable, and BESS projects.

This role involves leading the development of proposals, scopes, conceptual designs, and execution plans. As a lead technical specialist, you will generate engineering cost and man-hour estimates, schedules, and detailed electricity substation PC design packages compliant with required client and other technical standards.

You will design protection and control systems, including panel arrangements, single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring, relay panel wiring diagrams, circuit diagrams, cable block diagrams, cable schedules, and Bill of Materials.

The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge and experience applying National Grid's Technical Specification, Technical Guidance Notes, and Design Handbooks relating to substation protection control in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare proposals, develop scopes, and conceptual designs
  2. Generate engineering cost and man-hour estimates
  3. Develop detailed electricity substation PC design packages
  4. Design protection and control systems
  5. Lead project teams and conduct design reviews
  6. Facilitate coordination of design activities across departments
  7. Conduct site visits and participate in virtual meetings
  8. Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members
Required Skills and Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 10 years and maximum 15 years of experience in Substation Transmission Distribution, Renewable, and BESS projects
  • Thorough knowledge and experience applying National Grid's Technical Specification, Technical Guidance Notes, and Design Handbooks
  • Membership in a relevant professional Engineering Institution, such as IET, CIGRE, IEC, IEEE
  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Experience in Onshore wind, Offshore wind, Renewable (solar), and BESS projects preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
