Job Title:

Enterprise Messaging Solutions Specialist

This role involves delivering and supporting a high-performance messaging infrastructure for enterprise applications and batch processes. As an Enterprise Messaging Solutions Specialist, you will administer and support IBM MQ Series and File Transfer Edition (FTE) on the z/OS platform to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient messaging operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Messaging Administration:
  • Install, configure, and maintain IBM MQ Series and MQ FTE on z/OS to ensure seamless integration with CICS, DB2, IMS, and other z/OS subsystems.
  • Manage MQ objects including queue managers, queues, channels, and cluster configurations to optimize throughput and reduce latency.
  • Monitor MQ performance and availability, applying tuning techniques to improve overall system efficiency.
  • Upgrade Support:
  • Plan and execute upgrades of MQ Series and FTE components on z/OS to ensure minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Perform compatibility checks, regression testing, and rollback planning to guarantee successful upgrade execution.
  • Coordinate with application and infrastructure teams to ensure smooth transition during upgrades.
  • Document upgrade procedures and maintain version control records for future reference.
    • Security & Compliance:
    • Implement and manage MQ security protocols including TLS/SSH certificates, RACF integration, and security exits to ensure compliance with internal and industry standards.
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts using REXX, JCL, or Assembler for MQ operations to enhance operational efficiency.
    • Disaster Recovery & High Availability:
    • Design and implement MQ Queue Sharing Groups and RESLEVEL configurations for high availability to minimize downtime and data loss.
    • Support disaster recovery planning and testing for MQ environments to ensure business continuity.
    • Collaboration & Support:
    • Work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, and support staff to troubleshoot and resolve MQ-related issues in a timely manner.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members to enhance skills and knowledge.
    • Documentation & Process Improvement:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of MQ configurations, procedures, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and process improvement.
    • Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline operations and improve overall system efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Technical Expertise:
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with IBM MQ on z/OS to ensure deep understanding of MQ concepts and functionality.
  • Familiarity with COBOL, REXX, and other language tools to enable effective scripting and automation.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex MQ-related issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and in hybrid team environments to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Preferred Certifications:
  • IBM MQ Administrator Certification to demonstrate expertise and commitment to professional development.
