Fresh Produce Category Development Manager

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and execution of category growth plans across a diverse portfolio of fresh produce items, including vegetables and fruits.

Key responsibilities include developing and executing growth plans, tracking price trends and customer demand patterns, and defining assortment strategies for each category.

  • Category Strategy & Planning:
    • Develop and execute growth plans to increase sales and revenue across the fresh produce categories.
    • Track mandi price trends, international trade flows, and customer demand patterns to inform business decisions.
    • Define assortment strategies, including variety selection, pack size optimization, and sourcing region identification, to maximize profit margins.
  • Sales & Business Development:
    • Directly drive sales of assigned categories across various channels, including e-commerce, quick commerce, modern retail, and institutional buyers.
    • Build strong customer relationships and close deals to achieve revenue and margin targets.
    • Over time, recruit, train, and manage a sales team to scale with category volumes.
  • Sourcing & Supplier Development:
    • Establish strong supplier networks across regions, including key sourcing locations for vegetables and fruits.
    • Negotiate procurement contracts to ensure competitive pricing, consistent quality, and reliable supply chains.
    • Explore import/export opportunities to optimize off-season coverage and minimize inventory risk.
  • Operations & Supply Chain:
    • Collaborate with procurement and operations teams to optimize farm-to-customer movement, minimizing waste and cost.
    • Ensure freshness and availability across the portfolio by implementing efficient logistics and supply chain solutions.
  • Financial & Performance Management:
    • Own the financial performance of assigned categories, managing revenues, margins, and working capital effectively.
    • Monitor SKU profitability, wastage levels, and demand-supply alignment to inform strategic decisions.
    • Generate regular performance dashboards highlighting risks and opportunities for improvement.
