We are seeking a skilled Music Educator to join our dynamic team of special educators. As a Music Teacher at our esteemed special school, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of learners with multiple disabilities.

About the Role

As a Music Teacher, your primary responsibility will be to design and implement music lessons that cater to varying learning styles and abilities. This may include students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.

You will utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation. Your role also involves promoting music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.

Collaboration is key in this position. You will work closely with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.

Your expertise will be utilised to assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to Individualised Education Programs (IEPs).

Maintaining a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment is crucial. You will manage behaviour sensitively in line with our positive behaviour support policies.

Finally, you will organise performances, music therapy sessions, and school-wide musical events to showcase students' abilities.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's or Postgraduate Diploma in Carnatic/Hindustani Music, Certificate course in Music Therapy (preferred)
  • 3 to 7 years of working with children in a mainstream school/Special school
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing
  • Must know Light songs and Bhajans in Tamil
  • Knowledge of Tamil language is mandatory
  • Training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices
  • Experience with communication aids
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude
