Director of Sports

The Director – Sports is responsible for the overall vision, strategy, and policies for sports departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for sports programs, physical education, and wellness initiatives.
  • Oversee sports programs, tournaments, training camps, and physical education curriculum, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
  • Manage facilities, gymnasiums, and grounds, guaranteeing proper maintenance and optimal utilization.
  • Identify, recruit, and mentor talented athletes to represent the institution at various levels, leveraging networks and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with coaches, trainers, and faculty to foster a culture of fitness and sportsmanship, promoting health awareness and community engagement.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and campaigns on sports, wellness, and fitness, aligning with institutional values and objectives.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of sports coaches and staff, providing constructive feedback and coaching opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, promoting ethical sports practices, and adhering to relevant laws and standards.
  • Formulate and implement sports and physical education policies, ensuring adherence to UGC/AIU norms and guidelines.
  • Identify and groom talented sportspersons to represent the institution at zonal, national, and international levels, capitalizing on their potential and strengths.
  • Liaise with sports councils, federations, and UGC-recognized bodies for collaboration, partnership, and participation in regional, national, and international events.
  • Strategically manage resources, grants, and funding for sports activities, optimizing budget allocation and maximizing outcomes.
  • Organize and supervise intra-mural, inter-college, and inter-university sports tournaments, enhancing the sporting experience and fostering camaraderie among participants.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Physical Education, Sports Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in sports administration, coaching, or sports management, demonstrating progressive leadership and expertise.
  • A proven track record of managing large-scale sports events and teams, showcasing exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of modern training methods, sports technology, and performance analytics, staying updated with industry trends and best practices.
  • A record of representing the university/college at inter-university / inter-collegiate competitions or state and/or national championships, exemplifying dedication and commitment to excellence.
  • Expertise in UGC, AIU, and national sports policies, navigating regulatory frameworks and ensuring compliance.
