Senior Well Engineering Manager

This role requires an experienced professional to lead the design, planning and execution of coal bed methane (CBM) wells. The successful candidate will ensure that all well designs and activities comply with relevant regulations and standards.

  • Well Planning & Design:
  • Lead the development of well plans for CBM wells, including location selection support and preparation of detailed Basis of Design (BoD).
  • Develop risk registers and contingency plans to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Design fit-for-purpose and cost-optimized completions for CBM production.
  • Engineering & Cost Control:
  • Generate drilling and completion authorization for expenditure (AFE) and monitor actual vs budgeted costs.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to select equipment and materials for well construction.
  • Evaluate new technologies and best practices to improve well delivery and safety.
  • Operational Support:
  • Provide technical expertise to the execution team during drilling, casing, cementing and completions.
  • Conduct post-well reviews to implement lessons learned and improve processes.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination:
  • Work closely with subsurface teams to optimize well targeting and zonal management.
  • Coordinate with health, safety and environment teams to ensure regulatory compliance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in petroleum engineering or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in upstream oil and gas, with 3+ years specifically in CBM operations.
  • Proven track record in well design and engineering for low-pressure, unconventional gas wells.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in well design software such as Landmark, WellPlan and Compass.
  • Strong knowledge of CBM reservoir behavior and gas production mechanisms.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
