Senior Privacy and Data Protection Consultant

We are seeking an experienced Privacy and Data Protection Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data protection laws and regulations, with the ability to provide strategic legal guidance on privacy and data protection matters.
The selected individual will be responsible for advising on complex data protection and privacy issues, including AI governance, with emphasis on U.S. federal and state laws. They will work closely with stakeholders to provide subject matter expertise, advice, and trainings related to data protection legal and compliance obligations.
In this role, you will assist with the development and implementation of our global data protection and privacy program, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will also raise awareness and deliver effective training and guidance to teams to promote best practices and drive a data protection and privacy-oriented culture.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic legal guidance on privacy and data protection issues, emphasizing student data privacy under U.S. federal and state laws, international laws, and compliance obligations.
- Supporting the development and implementation of our global data protection and privacy program in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Partnersing with stakeholders to provide subject matter expertise, advice, and trainings related to data protection legal and compliance obligations.
- Assisting with and monitoring compliance with our data protection and privacy policies, processes, and procedures.
- Raising awareness and delivering effective training and guidance to teams to promote best practices and drive a data protection and privacy-oriented culture.
- Assisting with data governance and compliance efforts, preparing and overseeing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs), and other data protection and privacy compliance documentation.
- Providing expertise on AI governance and compliance, advising on appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect and safeguard personal data, particularly student data.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A comprehensive knowledge of global data protection and privacy laws, with emphasis on U.S. state and federal student data privacy laws and best practices.
- Expertise in advising on complex data protection and privacy matters, particularly FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, and other relevant regulations.
- Ability to work cross-functionally, establishing effective solutions efficiently and amicably.
- Builds trust, emphasizes collaboration and communication, and serves as a connector between business and legal.
- Translates legal advice into actionable guidance for stakeholders, often meeting prescribed timelines.
- Applies risk-balanced, practical legal guidance to complex data protection and privacy questions, demonstrating creative problem-solving and solution-finding skills.
- Superior analytical and research skills to complete tasks and navigate challenging matters.
- Maintains confidentiality to the utmost degree.
- Takes independent action and calculated risks while seeking help when needed.
- Balances team and individual responsibilities, contributing to a positive working environment.
You must have:
- An LLB or Juris Doctor from an accredited law school,
- Enrollment with a State Bar Council under the Bar Council of India and/or passing the All-India Bar Examination, and/or member of the bar in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
