Piping Stress Engineer Role

Key responsibilities of the Piping Stress Engineer include ensuring the mechanical integrity, safe operation, and compliance with industry codes and standards of piping systems. This includes performing detailed static and dynamic analysis to identify potential issues.

  • Design and Analysis
    • Conduct comprehensive stress analysis on piping systems for sustained, thermal expansion, and pressure loads.
    • Perform advanced dynamic analyses including seismic analysis, wind load analysis, slug flow analysis, fluid transient analysis, acoustic-induced vibration checks, fatigue analysis, and complex systems modeling.
  • Support and Load Design
    • Design and select standard and special piping support components including spring hangers, snubbers, expansion joints, and guides.
    • Provide accurate load data to civil and structural engineering teams for foundation, pipe rack, and equipment design.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Prepare project-specific piping stress specifications and design basis documents.
    • Issue a stress critical line list, marked-up isometrics showing stress-related requirements, and detailed stress analysis reports for client approval.
  • Quality and Compliance
    • Ensure all analysis and design activities comply with international codes and standards such as ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, API, and relevant client specifications.
    • Participate in project review meetings to address and resolve piping-related issues.
  • Interdisciplinary Coordination
    • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure correct interface management and load communication.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to construction, commissioning, and operations teams to resolve field issues.
