Role Description

This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced CFD engineer to work on complex simulations, leveraging expertise in aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, and Python scripting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, run, and analyze CFD simulations using OpenFOAM for various applications, including 2D airfoils, 3D wings, and full aircraft models.
  • Work with flow regimes ranging from incompressible to hypersonic conditions.
  • Select suitable solvers, turbulence models, and thermophysical models based on simulation needs.
  • Develop high-quality meshes using OpenFOAM's native meshing tools or external pre-processors.
  • Create automation scripts in Python for pre-processing, simulation control, and post-processing tasks.
  • Extract and interpret aerodynamic performance metrics, such as lift, drag, pressure distribution, and shock characteristics.
  • Validate CFD results through comparison with experimental data or established literature.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of simulation setups, assumptions, and findings.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience with OpenFOAM for aerodynamic simulations.
  • Strong knowledge of aerodynamics and fluid mechanics, including compressible and incompressible flows.
  • Ability to simulate complex geometries, including full aircraft configurations.
  • Proficiency in Python scripting for CFD automation.
  • Familiarity with mesh generation tools compatible with OpenFOAM.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of hypersonic flow physics and related modeling techniques.
  • Experience in HPC environments and parallel computing.
  • Understanding of turbulence and transition modeling.
  • Exposure to aircraft design or UAV aerodynamics.
