Lead Road Safety Strategist

We are seeking a seasoned professional to lead our road safety initiatives across Odisha.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive road safety strategies that align with national frameworks and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Collaborate with government stakeholders, urban and rural authorities, law enforcement agencies, consultants, and community groups to enhance roadway safety.
Main Responsibilities:
  1. Policy & Strategy:
    • Design, implement, and review state road safety policies and action plans.
    • Advise on alignment of state initiatives with national road safety frameworks and SDGs.
    • Establish guidelines and standards for safe road infrastructure, signage, and traffic management.
  2. Infrastructure Planning & Design:
    • Evaluate design and safety aspects of new and existing road projects.
    • Recommend countermeasures for high-risk areas and conduct road safety audits at various stages.
  3. Data Analysis & Research:
    • Analyze crash data, road user patterns, and conduct causal analysis to identify trends and risk factors.
    • Maintain and update a road safety database; prepare periodic performance reports and targets for safety indicators.
  4. Capacity Building & Training:
    • Design and deliver capacity building workshops for engineers, enforcement officers, planners, drivers, and community groups.
    • Develop knowledge-sharing resources and toolkits on road safety best practices.
  5. Community Engagement:
    • Lead the design and execution of road safety awareness campaigns for the public.
    • Collaborate with local NGOs, schools, and community leaders for safe mobility initiatives.
  6. Enforcement & Monitoring:
    • Work with police and traffic enforcement teams to strengthen compliance with road safety laws.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of enforcement and engineering interventions.
  7. Interdepartmental Coordination:
    • Facilitate meetings among diverse government agencies for integrated safety improvements.
    • Represent the state at national road safety forums and stakeholder consultations.
  8. Technology & Innovation:
    • Advocate for the adoption of intelligent traffic management systems, GIS-based accident mapping, and emerging safety technologies.
    • Advise state authorities on procurement and deployment of digital enforcement and monitoring tools.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Transportation Planning/Engineering, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mobility and/or road safety in India.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful urban mobility programs.
  • Strong understanding of Indian policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
