System Software Engineer

This role involves contributing to the development of system software with a focus on Linux kernel and virtualization engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in operating systems concepts and experience with C programming for operating system kernel & systems development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and developing core CPU and SOC features for the Linux kernel and related open-source projects.
  • Collaborating with the upstream Linux Kernel community to get these features merged into the mainline Linux Kernel.
  • Driving features and functionality to partner technical teams including the Linux kernel, QEMU community.
  • Supporting solutions offered by partner companies through code review, unit testing, and documentation.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • 8-15 years of experience in operating systems, preferably with Linux or any other UNIX-like operating system.
  • Good knowledge of the Linux community and open-source software development workflow.
  • Proficiency in C programming and understanding of low-level software such as BIOS/UEFI/firmware.
  • Exposure to KVM/QEMU (including x86-64 virtualization extensions).
  • Knowledge and experience with the GNU toolchain and Git.

Required academic credentials include a Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical or computer engineering.

The successful candidate will be able to contribute to all phases of software development and work collaboratively across the stack with hardware and performance characterization teams.
