Role Description

The role of Staff Engineer is a senior technical position within the team. With a keen interest in technology, innovation and collaboration, this individual stays up-to-date with the latest developments, continually seeking to improve design, build and deliver better results than before.

As a key contributor, the Staff Engineer plays a vital role in creating industry-leading solutions that drive product growth. They are responsible for exploring how advances in technology can support ongoing continuous improvement and contribute to department strategies, practices, toolkits and processes.

This position requires strong leadership skills, as the Staff Engineer will mentor and guide engineers within their home, assisting with technical challenges as needed. Additionally, they will be involved in the development of a strong talent pipeline throughout their wider home by helping the Manager Engineer with hiring, internal movements, succession planning, talent reviews etc.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Takes technical responsibility across all stages and iterations of software development.
  • Plans and drives software construction activities, adopting and adapting appropriate software development methods, tools and techniques.
  • Measures and monitors applications of project/team standards for software construction, including software security.
  • Contributes to the development of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for software development.
Required Skills & Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Expert-level technical skills in full stack development.
  • Hands-on experience writing software in Java and Web using HTML, CSS, ReactJS, jQuery, TypeScript, JSON, XML.
  • Experience building applications using Struts/Spring & J2EE frameworks, Web Services/RESTful services.
  • RDBMS experience with exposure to writing Stored Procedures and SQL queries.
  • Experience working in both Linux and Windows host environments.
  • Experience working with ESBs or similar technologies and backend scheduled jobs are a plus.
  • Experience to Agile/Scrum and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Able to utilize tools like JIRA, Visio and MS Office tools for documentation and work tracking purposes.
  • Awareness of Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, build pipelines.
