Job Overview

The Research Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting fundraising and field operations teams by engaging with research partners and project funders. This individual will design quantitative surveys and qualitative interview guides, perform cognitive testing and piloting of data collection instruments, and develop ongoing monitoring and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support fundraising and field operations teams by engaging with research partners and project funders.
  • Design quantitative surveys and qualitative interview guides, and perform cognitive testing and piloting of data collection instruments.
  • Develop and support ongoing monitoring and evaluation, and initiate evaluations of non-experimental projects.
  • Perform data quality checks for internal research and project evaluations.
  • Conduct primary data analysis and provide statistical and analytical support to field operations teams.
  • Write high-quality reports and support stakeholders by critically reviewing reports.
  • Conduct literature reviews and stay up-to-date with relevant research findings.
  • Support the current research manager in maintaining research knowledge databases.
  • Undertake administrative duties related to research projects, including participating in meetings and coordinating research documents.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Master's degree in economics with graduate-level coursework in econometrics, impact evaluation, and economic development.
  • At least 3 years of experience in research and development work, preferably in low-income countries.
  • Strong understanding of economic development and poverty reduction drivers.
  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative research methods and data analysis, as well as expertise with software tools like R, Stata, and SurveyCTO.
  • Experience in experimental or quasi-experimental research studies would be an advantage.
  • Qualitative research skills, including design, interview guide development, and analysis.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Project management experience, including risk management and stakeholder communications.
  • Knowledge synthesis skills, including conducting literature searches and summarizing complex papers.
  • Alignment with GiveDirectly's core competencies, including emotional intelligence, problem-solving, and fostering inclusivity.
