Senior System Administrator Job Description

As a key member of our technical team, the Senior System Administrator will be responsible for providing hands-on support for Linux & UNIX systems. This role involves working with a team that oversees operational areas such as support, administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for mission-critical support for Linux & UNIX servers in our Global and Regional Datacenters. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical support for Red Hat/ CentOS/OEL OS in both Physical and Virtual Environments
  • Supporting and administering 4000+ Linux servers in a highly commercial and agile environment
  • Installing and troubleshooting hardware as necessary
  • Building servers following standard procedures and delivering them as per agreed timelines
  • Working with users to troubleshoot and solve operational issues
  • Providing operating system level support to application developers and performing server migrations as necessary
  • Coordinating planned and unplanned outages and potential recovery efforts in the event of system failure
  • Building CentOS/RHEL/OEL using the Golden Image and performing Image backups
  • Deploying security patches to the server environment by following standard patching methodology
  • Performing Firmware updates as per vendor recommendations
  • Monitoring system logs, activity, and performance on all servers daily
  • Utilizing ticketing systems to address and resolve customer work requests
  • Having knowledge of infrastructure support, data center operations, and service delivery
  • Understanding ITIL methodology and effective operations governance methods and processes
  • Managing and monitoring server uptimes and not impacting SLA levels
  • Willingness to work in rotational shifts including US/EU/APAC Business hours
  • Participating in team meetings and providing updates on action items/initiatives
  • Supporting VMs in Azure/Cloud environment
  • Providing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for Sev1/Sev2 Outages and working towards permanent resolution of the issue
  • Experience with Cisco UCS, HP-UX, DELL PowerEdge, and HP Proliant hardware is preferred
  • Documenting procedures and following best practices

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field with a quantitative component
  • Total 5+ years of experience in supporting Linux & UNIX systems
  • 1-2 years of analytical experience is preferred - Retail knowledge is a plus
  • Passion for consulting using data and analytics
  • An inquisitive orientation to problem-solving and analysis
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Responsiveness and speed with an eye for detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work well in teams and with clients
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple competing tasks
