Job Description

The Conventional Underwriter reviews, conditions and underwrites mortgage loans in accordance with established policies and procedures. This involves examining all documentation for accuracy and completeness.

This role requires a minimum of 4 years' experience and a degree or equivalent qualification.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in the 4C's framework (Credit, Capacity, Collateral and Capital), as well as knowledge of credit bureau documents and account types.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Review and analyze mortgage loan applications to ensure eligibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines.
  2. Review all required loan data, reports, and inspections to insure the collateral is acceptable to investors and the company.
  3. Apply knowledge of lending and underwriting guidelines, credit and income analysis, cash flow analysis, risk assessment, loan-to-value ratios, and debt-to-income ratios.
  4. Make independent decisions regarding acceptance and risk of loans according to HUD, company, and investor guidelines.
  5. Provide final approval underwriting of mortgage loans.
  6. Complete all required paperwork and forms in a timely and accurate manner.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Familiarity with live underwriting and real-time analysis.
  • Excellent income calculation and debt-to-income ratio calculation skills.
  • Expertise in the 4C's framework.
  • Knowledge of credit report analysis and Letter of Explanation.
  • Familiarity with credit bureaus and documents to approve loans.
  • Familiarity with different account types.
