A Mainframe Consultant is responsible for driving the migration of legacy mainframe systems to modern cloud or distributed environments. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in both mainframe systems and modern platforms, as well as leadership skills to manage migration teams and coordinate with various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Migrate legacy mainframe applications to cloud or distributed platforms.
- Develop and implement migration strategies, including re-platforming, re-hosting, and re-architecting solutions.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and IT leadership to define migration objectives, timelines, and risk management plans.
- Lead a team of developers in executing the migration strategy, providing hands-on guidance and mentoring.
- Ensure that best practices, coding standards, and performance optimization techniques are followed throughout the migration process.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience with mainframe systems, including COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and other relevant mainframe tools and technologies.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms and distributed systems, including microservices architectures, containers, and APIs.
- Proven experience with mainframe migration projects, including strategies such as re-platforming, refactoring, re-hosting, and data migration.
- Familiarity with modern programming languages and frameworks, such as Java, Python, and Scala.
