Job Title: Senior Messaging Systems Developer

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and skilled messaging systems developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of IBM MQ Series and File Transfer Edition (FTE) on the z/OS platform.

The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and supporting messaging infrastructure, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security.

This is a challenging role that requires strong technical expertise, analytical skills, and collaboration across teams to maintain mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administration of IBM MQ Series and FTE on z/OS
  • Management of MQ objects including queue managers, queues, channels, and cluster configurations
  • Monitoring of MQ performance and availability with tuning techniques to optimize throughput and reduce latency
Upgrade Support:
  • Planning and execution of upgrades of MQ Series and FTE components on z/OS
  • Conducting compatibility checks, regression testing, and rollback planning
  • Collaboration with application and infrastructure teams to ensure minimal disruption during upgrades
  • Maintenance of detailed documentation and version control records for upgrades
Security & Compliance:
  • Implementation and management of MQ security protocols including TLS/SSH certificates, RACF integration, and security exits
  • Ensuring compliance with organizational and industry standards for secure messaging environments
System Programming & Integration:
  • Support for integration of MQ with z/OS subsystems including CICS, DB2, and IMS
  • Development and maintenance of automation scripts using REXX, JCL, or Assembler for MQ operations
Disaster Recovery & High Availability:
  • Design and implementation of MQ Queue Sharing Groups and RESLEVEL configurations for high availability
  • Contribution to disaster recovery planning, testing, and failover strategies for MQ environments
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with IBM MQ on z/OS
  • Deep understanding of MQ Queue Sharing Groups, FTE configurations, and MQ monitoring tools
  • Proficiency in COBOL, REXX, JCL, and related language tools
Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in hybrid team environments
Preferred Certifications:
  • IBM MQ Administrator Certification (or equivalent relevant certification)
