Role Overview

The Conventional Underwriter plays a crucial role in reviewing, conditioning and underwriting mortgage loans according to established policies and procedures. This includes examining all documentation for accuracy and completeness.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze mortgage loan applications to ensure eligibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Examine all required loan data, reports, and inspections to verify the collateral is acceptable to investors.
  • Possess expertise in credit analysis, income calculation, debt-to-income ratio calculation, and 4C's framework (Credit, Capacity, Collateral, and Capital).
  • Knowledge of lending and underwriting guidelines, credit and income analysis, cash flow analysis, risk assessment, loan-to-value ratios, and debt-to-income ratios.

In addition to these key responsibilities, the successful candidate will be accountable for:

  • Making independent decisions regarding acceptance and risk of loans according to HUD and investor guidelines.
  • Providing final approval underwriting of mortgage loans.
  • Completing all necessary paperwork and forms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Signing off conditions in a timely manner set by management.
  • Collaborating with staff and management to find solutions on escalated loans.
Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years of experience in conventional/government end-to-end underwriting is required. A degree or equivalent qualification is also necessary. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential for this role.
