Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION - Assistant Manager

  • Monitoring and handling all legal issues related to claims matters is a key responsibility. This includes managing recovery actions such as outstanding freight, detention, demurrage, abandoned and longstanding containers, and other costs recoverable from third parties.

Role Summary:

  • We are seeking an individual to acknowledge receipt of claims within 24 hours, gather relevant documents, and report to HO on claims within the same timeframe.
  • This role involves monitoring and assisting with HO claims and court cases until closure.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in cargo / marine claims, be proficient in MS-office tools, and possess excellent analytical and reporting skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Acknowledge receipt of claims within 24 hours of receipt.
  2. Gather all relevant documents and report to HO on claims within 24 hours.
  3. Monitor and assist with HO claims and other colleagues in handling claims and court cases until closure.
  4. Manage P&I related matters including cargo claims, GA & stowage etc.
  5. Handle third-party damages to CMA CGM containers and cargo, including stevedore damages.
  6. Recover outstanding freight, detention, demurrage, abandoned and longstanding containers.
  7. Draft and vet various Service Agreements and MOU's.
  8. Ensure procedures implemented by Head Office Legal Department are followed.
  9. Provide guidance to branch offices on handling legal issues.
  10. Provide legal advice to other Departments.
  11. Handle loss of OB/L cases and apply Bank Guarantee procedures.
  12. Prepare monthly reports highlighting issues requiring intervention.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum graduate degree.
  • 5+ years' experience in shipping industry preferably with Cargo / Marine claims experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills, good reporting skills, trouble shooting, and well-versed in MS-office tools especially Excel & Power point.
