Job Description

As a credit underwriter, you will play a crucial role in reviewing and assessing mortgage business applications. Your primary responsibility will be to manage the portfolio of assigned branches or locations, ensuring that all loan applications are thoroughly evaluated and approved or rejected accordingly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review complex loan applications within defined guidelines and make decisions or recommend approval to higher authorities.
  • Underwrite proposals as per laid-down policies and procedures to honour agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and manage city/area business volumes.
  • Conduct personal discussions with customers to establish their credit worthiness and ensure completion of credit/KYC documents and verification through telephonic, field, and collateral visits.
  • Assess income-to-obligation ratios, loan-to-value ratios, and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the rational behind these calculations and their impact on loan performance over long tenures.
  • Maintain Portfolio Management Information Systems (MIS), Delinquency MIS, and other operations-related MIS of the cluster and regularly report on the same.
  • Build and facilitate effective relationships with third parties to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
  • Take ownership of client queries and use industry knowledge and experience to overcome challenges and solve problems.
  • Exceed service quality standards and strive for continuous process improvement.
  • Critically review credit proposals to identify industry, business, financial, management, and facility structure risks.
  • Ensure collateral and other credit risk mitigation to facilitate approving authorities' decision-making on credit proposals.
  • Enable quick turnaround times for credit lending proposals for mortgage business, comprising loan against property and home loan business, in close liaison with sales teams.
  • Undertake ongoing reviews of credit exposures to ensure they remain bankable.
  • Facilitate critical reviews and documentation of proposals and effectively monitor client and collateral creditworthiness from pre-sanction to post-disbursement phases, undertaking steps for risk mitigation when required while adhering to legal and documentation norms and policies.
  • Manage credit underwriting functions in assigned branches and facilitate quick turnarounds of credit lending proposals in close liaison with local credit analysts and sales teams.
  • Follow up and ensure recovery of quick mortality cases between 12-18 months of vintage.
