Job Description

As a well planning leader, you will be responsible for driving the design, planning, and execution support of Coalbed Methane (CBM) wells. Your primary goal is to ensure technical integrity, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

The role involves leading a team of well engineers and mentoring junior staff. You will work closely with subsurface teams to optimize well targeting and zonal performance. Additionally, you will coordinate with HSE, land access, and surface facility teams to align well delivery schedules.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing detailed well designs, including casing, cementing, well trajectory, and mud programs, aligned with reservoir and geo-mechanical models.
  • Creating Basis of Design (BoD), risk registers, and contingency plans for each well.
  • Designing fit-for-purpose and cost-optimized completions for CBM production.
  • Generating drilling and completion Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) and monitoring actual vs budget.
  • Evaluating and applying new CBM-relevant technologies, such as slim-hole, underbalanced drilling, and horizontal CBM.

To succeed in this role, you must have over 10 years of upstream oil & gas experience, with at least 3 years specifically in CBM operations. Proven experience in well design and engineering for low-pressure, unconventional gas wells is also essential. A strong understanding of CBM reservoir behavior, gas production mechanisms, and analytical skills are required. Proficiency in well design software, such as Landmark, WellPlan, Compass, StressCheck, etc., is also necessary.
