Linux System Administrator Role

The Linux system administrator role entails the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux-based servers and systems. This position ensures the reliability, security, and performance of systems while supporting business-critical infrastructure and addressing technical issues promptly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.)
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues
  • Perform regular system updates, patch management, and security hardening
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and system resources
  • Configure and maintain system backups and disaster recovery solutions
  • Automate tasks using shell scripting and configuration management tools
  • Maintain system documentation, logs, and audit trails
  • Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to support IT operations
  • Monitor system availability and ensure adherence to SLAs
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide support for incidents and maintenance activities

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in Linux system administration
  • Proficient with Linux distributions such as RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu
  • Strong knowledge of shell scripting and command-line tools
  • Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix) and log management
  • Familiarity with security practices, firewalls, and SELinux configurations
  • Good problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Linux+ or RHCSA/RHCE certification
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge of Ansible, Puppet, or Chef for configuration management
  • Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM)
