API Test Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled API Test Engineer to join our team.

About the Role:

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with popular testing tools, CI/CD practices, and Agile environments. As an API Test Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and executing manual and automated tests for APIs to ensure their functionality, reliability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform manual API testing using Postman to validate functionality and identify defects.
  • Automate API testing using RestAssured or Playwright for faster regression and continuous validation.
  • Design and document test cases, test scenarios, and test data based on business requirements.
  • Log, track, and manage bugs using JIRA or Azure DevOps and collaborate with development teams for resolution.
  • Build and manage test automation pipelines using Jenkins integrated within CI/CD workflows.
  • Use Visual Studio or VS Code as primary IDEs to develop and maintain automation scripts.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and retrospectives.
  • Ensure complete test coverage and conduct smoke, sanity, regression, and integration testing.
  • Provide detailed test reports and quality metrics to stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in API testing, both manual (Postman) and automated (RestAssured, Playwright).
  • Experience with JIRA, Azure DevOps, and other test management tools.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins.
  • Good knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP methods, and JSON/XML formats.
  • Familiarity with SDLC, STLC, and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in rotational shifts and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in end-to-end automation framework development for APIs.
  • Exposure to web UI automation tools or frameworks.
  • Basic knowledge of databases and SQL queries for backend validation.
  • Experience working on real-time applications in domains like e-commerce or finance.
