Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Video Backend Engineer to lead complex projects, leveraging expertise in front-end technologies and video streaming to create exceptional user experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex backend projects focusing on performance improvements and migrations.
  • Manage various codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1) and formats (MP4, WebM, HLS, DASH) using tools like FFmpeg or GStreamer.
  • Design and implement scalable backend solutions for video processing features, including encoding, transcoding, and adaptive streaming.
  • Enhance video storage, retrieval, and streaming performance through caching and adaptive bitrate streaming.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and deliver impactful features.
  • Make thoughtful architectural and design decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term scalability and maintainability.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing code reviews and technical guidance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science from a top-tier institution.
  • Over 7 years of backend software development experience, with emphasis on distributed systems and video processing.
  • Proficient in backend technologies such as Python, Java, or Go, with experience in building scalable systems.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with video technologies, including video codecs, FFmpeg or similar multimedia frameworks, streaming protocols, and cloud media services.
  • A proven track record of serving as a tech lead and managing complex initiatives.
  • In-depth understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design.
  • Strong experience in performance optimization, debugging, and scaling applications.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical growth.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to handle ambiguous requirements.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with real-time video streaming technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and experience with distributed databases, caching systems, and message queues.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools.
  • Understanding of DRM, video watermarking, and security best practices.
