Job Summary


As a Microsoft Data Center Technician, you will play a critical role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.


You will be responsible for staging, setting up, and performing hardware deployments, as well as troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment issues. Additionally, you will perform hardware decommissions for simple changes and refreshes following standard operating procedures.


This role requires a strong understanding of data center standard processes and procedures, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. The Microsoft data center infrastructure is comprised of over 200 data centers in 32 countries, supporting services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses worldwide. Responsibilities


Key responsibilities of this role include:



  • Performing diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures to quickly identify and resolve equipment issues
  • Performing post-execution quality checks to ensure that grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are set up properly according to safety protocols and deployment standards
  • Decommissioning hardware for simple changes and refreshes following standard procedures with minimal guidance
  • Communicating and reporting incidents to appropriate data center operations management units, technician leads, and engineering specialists
  • Assisting and guiding other technicians to complete challenging or complex tasks
  • Completing required training aligned to the role and workload, and observing more experienced technicians to gain hands-on experience and relevant on-the-job training
  • Contribution to a positive and effective team environment by sharing information with others, contributing to regular team meetings, asking questions, and staying apprised of the status of others' work
  • Displaying accountability and ownership of the data center facilities
  • Embodying the company culture and values

Requirements


Required qualifications for this role include:



  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components
  • 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology

Background check requirements include the ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check.


Preferred qualifications include 2+ years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology, and applicable certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
