Senior Architect

  • We are seeking a highly experienced Solution Architect to lead our global tax calculation engine project.
  • The ideal candidate will have expertise in building scalable and secure cloud-based applications using .NET Core and C#.
  • They will be responsible for designing and implementing the architecture of the tax calculation engine, ensuring it is simple to onboard all tax types and adding support for additional countries.
  • The architect will work closely with multiple teams and architects to build the solution, which will be active and cloud agnostic.
  • Additionally, they will work with teams and architects to develop core platform services.

What You Will Do

  • Improve customer experience by reducing cognitive load for developers to build and release APIs, increasing consistency across APIs built by multiple teams, being predictable with releases and quality, and more.
  • Strategize, influence, and plan out a path for AvaTax products and services to be globally distributed and available.
  • Continuously improve product quality by coming up with new plans and improving current daily work.
  • Improve architecture, design, and facilitate development of top priority projects.
  • Mentor engineers and leads, share skills and expertise, encourage creativity and new ideas.
  • Help grow and strengthen Avalara's business by improving technology, processes, and people.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4-year technical degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience working in cloud-based environments like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Expertise in building applications using C# and .NET Core.
  • Experience shipping customer-facing software in at least 2 core languages like C#, Java, etc.
  • Knowledge of architectural styles and design patterns.
  • Experience in data modelling, database design, and building applications at scale using service-oriented architectures, microservices, and industry best practices.
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo with knowledge to change it.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab, etc.
