About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Database Solutions Architect to oversee database performance, availability and security across multiple platforms.

This individual will play a key role in designing scalable data architectures, ensuring high availability and supporting development teams with optimised queries and resilient data pipelines.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, monitor, and tune production databases using expertise in MSSQL Server and PostgreSQL.
  • Develop strategies for high availability, backups, restores, replication, and disaster recovery.
  • Ensure uptime and performance SLAs are met across cloud and hybrid environments.
  • AWS Cloud Expertise:
  • Administer RDS, Aurora, and EC2-hosted database instances.
  • Monitor database performance using CloudWatch and third-party tools.
  • Data Architecture & Design:
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to model new schemas, optimise indexes, and review queries.
  • Implement best practices in database normalisation, partitioning, and data lifecycle management.
  • Security & Compliance:
  • Ensure data encryption, access controls, and audit logging are in place and compliant with company policies.
  • Support GDPR/SOC 2/ISO 27001 initiatives with appropriate database controls.
  • Collaboration & Mentoring:
  • Provide guidance to developers and DevOps teams during code reviews and deployments.
  • Share knowledge, mentor junior DBAs, and improve documentation and internal tooling.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in database administration, including at least:
  • 5+ years with MSSQL Server (SQL Agent, SSIS, performance tuning)
  • 5+ years with PostgreSQL (query optimisation, extensions, logical replication)
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS database services: RDS, Aurora, S3, and IAM integration
  • Solid understanding of SQL query optimisation, execution plans, and troubleshooting slow queries
  • Proven track record of managing production-grade environments with strict uptime SLAs
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation using tools like Terraform or Ansible
