Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage our DMSII database. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Unisys mainframe environments and be able to perform various tasks such as installation, configuration, and administration of databases.

  • Maintain database performance, space utilization, and availability on Unisys mainframes by monitoring and optimizing these metrics.
  • Manage sets, subsets, and indexes to ensure efficient data access and minimize downtime.
  • Perform database backups, journals, and roll-forward recovery procedures to ensure data integrity.
  • Support schema changes and perform database reorganizations as required to maintain optimal system performance.
  • Collaborate with application and system teams to troubleshoot performance or access issues and implement solutions.
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and ensure compliance with backup policies.
  • Implement and maintain security, audit trails, and user access controls to protect sensitive data.
  • Document DBA processes, configuration, and recovery procedures for future reference.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of proven experience as a DMSII DBA or Unisys Mainframe DBA.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Unisys DMSII database administration, including DMUTILITY, DMSUPPORT, and database reorganization tools.
  • Knowledge of journaling, quiet point backups, and roll-forward recovery.
  • Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database issues.
  • Familiarity with COBOL, ALGOL, or other Unisys mainframe application integration.
  • Basic experience in ODBC/JDBC integration with DMSII (nice to have).

Nice to Have

Having exposure to modernization projects (migrating from DMSII to RDBMS/cloud) and knowledge of SQL/relational databases for cross-skill flexibility would be beneficial.
