Medical Coding Specialist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to accurately assign codes to medical procedures and diagnoses.

  • The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of medical coding guidelines and regulations, including those related to government and insurance requirements.
  • They will also be responsible for reviewing patients' charts and documents for accuracy and completeness, as well as communicating effectively with other staff members to clarify any discrepancies.
  • In addition to these key responsibilities, the Medical Coding Specialist will be required to collect and analyze data, prepare reports, and implement strategic procedures to ensure compliance with hospital and medical facility policies.
  • As a Medical Coding Specialist, you will play a critical role in maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records, while ensuring that all coding is done in accordance with established guidelines and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field
  • Professional certification in medical coding (e.g. CPC, CMC)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical coding

Preferred qualifications:

  • Mastery of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs) and practice management systems
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting
