Database Administrator Job Description

We seek an experienced Database Administrator to manage and support our MS SQL Database. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills and experience in managing and supporting MS SQL Database including Failover Cluster, Always ON Setup and new server provisioning.

  • Monitor database log and event files for errors that may result in incidents
  • Ensure database availability through monitoring
  • Monitor database log replication
  • Report on the status of log replications as per agreed schedules
  • Monitor sessions, queries, logs, and latches
  • Purge database logs and trace files regularly
  • Review and maintain consistent configurations periodically
  • Recommend and implement measures to maintain availability
  • Produce a monthly report on database availability
  • Respond to database-related incidents and drive corrective action
  • Tune database parameters
  • Correlate related incidents into problem tickets and manage through the problem management process
  • Use trend analysis to identify and detail problems
  • Restore databases
  • Support the SQL DB team for critical issues
  • Handle performance-related issues with the database
  • Manage major incidents from start to finish and communicate production issues to customers
  • Set up jobs and job schedules for routine maintenance tasks and rebuild indexes
  • Defragment databases and perform performance tuning

  • Database installation and troubleshooting (must)
  • Always ON cluster configuration and management (essential)
  • Failover cluster management (must)
  • Patching and failover cluster/Always ON (required)
  • Replication and link server configuration (essential)
  • Database patching and hardening (must)
  • Job scheduling and maintenance planning
  • Creating and implementing POA and rollback plans on database migrations (must)
  • Planning and executing new projects related to databases
