Job Opportunity: Mechanical Design Engineer

The position involves designing and developing plumbing, HVAC, and firefighting systems for projects. This includes creating layouts, sizing pipes and equipment, and performing calculations as directed by senior engineers.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Designing appropriate plumbing systems for projects including domestic water, sanitary, storm water, hot water, gas systems etc.
    • Performing calculations as directed by senior engineers.
    • Designing and developing plumbing system layouts, pipe sizing and equipment selection.
    • Knowledge of International Plumbing design codes.
    • Revit and BIM environment expertise.
    • Collaboration with in-house disciplines to develop designs.
    • Experience with LEED and sustainable design projects.
  • HVAC System Design:
    • Conducting heat load calculations using tools like HAP to determine heating and cooling requirements for buildings.
    • Designing HVAC systems including water-cooled and air-cooled chiller plants, VRF systems, Direct Expansion systems, etc.
    • Selecting equipment such as chillers, cooling towers, VRF systems, fan coil units, AHUs, fans, and DX units based on project specifications.
    • Calculating ventilation requirements, pressurization needs, smoke management systems, pump head calculations, external static pressure, and sizing ducts and pipes.
    • Air distribution components like VAV boxes, grilles, diffuser, louvers, etc. selection.
    • Coordinating HVAC designs with architecture, structural engineering, electrical engineering, etc.
    • International codes and standards application (ASHRAE, AHRI, CIBSE, HTM, ASPE, etc.) in HVAC system design.
    • Energy efficiency, sustainability, and indoor air quality planning and designing various HVAC systems.
    • BIM tools like Navisworks and BIM Collaboration (BIM 360) proficiency.
    • Preparing design reports, specifications, take-off sheets, and bill of quantities (BOQ) for HVAC systems.
    • Client, subcontractor, supplier meetings attending, collaborating with disciplines to ensure coordinated project delivery.
    • Project meetings active participation, providing technical insights, and resolving engineering issues as they arise.
    • Specialized coursework or certification in HVAC systems advantageous.
    • Proven experience in HVAC system design, heat load calculations, equipment selection, and system optimization.
    • HVAC principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and refrigeration cycles in-depth knowledge.
    • Variety of HVAC equipment, controls, and components familiarity.
    • Complex HVAC issues troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders collaboration, effective communication skills.
  • Firefighting Systems Design:
    • Design fire protection systems according to national and international codes (NFPA, British Standards, local regulations). Emphasis on unique climate and building types.
    • Hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems ensuring proper coverage and compliance with safety standards.
    • Fire detection and alarm systems design and layout ensuring integration with other building services.
    • Review fire protection system submittals and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
    • Coordinate with fire protection authorities and building inspectors for approval and compliance checks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (B.E/B.Tech/master's in mechanical)
  • 8-15 years experience in Plumbing/HVAC & Firefighting.
