Portfolio Management Opportunity

SEBI registration requirements for a Portfolio Manager position are outlined below:

  1. The applicant must be a corporate entity.
  2. The applicant should have the necessary infrastructure, including office space, equipment, and personnel.
  3. The applicant shall appoint a compliance officer.

The principal officer of the applicant must possess:

  • A professional qualification in law, finance, accountancy, or business management, or completion of the CFA program.
  • At least five years of experience in related activities in the securities market, including portfolio management, stock brokerage, investment advice, research analysis, or fund management.

Provided that at least two years of relevant experience is in portfolio management or investment advisory services, or areas related to fund management.

  • Has obtained NISM XXI-B certification.
    • In addition to the principal officer and compliance officer, the applicant must employ at least one person who is a graduate with at least two years of experience in related activities in the securities market, including portfolio management, stock brokerage, investment advice, research analysis, or fund management. If this person is a fund manager, they must meet the same qualification, experience, and certification requirements as the principal officer.
    • The applicant meets the capital adequacy requirements, which include a minimum net worth of Rs. 5 crores.
    • The net worth requirement under PMS is separate from any capital adequacy requirements for other activities undertaken by the applicant.
    • The applicant, its directors, principal officers, compliance officers, or employees must not be involved in any litigation or convicted of any offense involving moral turpitude.
    • The applicant must be a fit and proper person, meeting the criteria outlined in Schedule II of the SEBI (Intermediaries) Regulations, 2008.
    • The grant of a certificate to the applicant is in the interest of investors.
    • To register, the applicant must submit Application Form A to SEBI, along with the required fee. The fee structure includes:
    • Application fees: INR 1 lakh
    • Registration fees: INR 10 lakhs
    • Renewal fees: INR 5 lakhs, paid every three years
