Job Title:

An Operating Theatre Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our operating theatres, providing a safe and efficient environment for patients and surgical teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and set up the operating room with necessary sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for scheduled surgeries. Ensure all surgical equipment is in perfect working order, including lights, suction machines, and monitors.

  2. Assist in preparing patients for surgery, which may include transporting them to the operating room and helping with positioning on the surgical table. Scrub, gown, and glove to assist the surgical team as required.

  3. Anticipate the needs of surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during procedures by passing instruments and supplies. Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.

  4. Handle and manage surgical specimens as directed by the surgeon. Operate and monitor basic medical equipment under supervision.

  5. Assist with patient transfer from the operating room to the recovery area. Clear, clean, and disinfect the operating room after each procedure.

  6. Collect, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to hospital protocols. Restock the operating room with supplies and ensure it is ready for the next case.

  7. Inventory and maintain surgical supplies, linens, and instruments.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Diploma or Certificate in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) from a recognized institution is required. A Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) is a plus.

  • Experience: Previous experience of at least 1 year in a hospital or surgical setting is preferred. Freshers with strong practical knowledge and a willingness to learn are also encouraged to apply.

  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization techniques, and operating room procedures. Familiarity with infection control protocols and sterile techniques. Basic understanding of medical equipment used in the OT.

  • Personal Attributes: High level of attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Stamina and physical fitness to handle the demands of the job, including long periods of standing and lifting.
