Job Title: Intensive Care SpecialistAbout the Role:

The Intensive Care Specialist plays a vital role in the management of critically ill patients, working closely with consultants and intensivists to provide optimal care.

  • Takes detailed histories and performs physical examinations of new admissions, utilizing their knowledge and skills to ensure accurate assessments.
  • Documents findings in medical records and completes admission history and physical assessment forms, maintaining clear and concise documentation.
  • Prescribes medications and treatment plans, initiates discharge plans, and reviews daily progress with team members, promoting effective communication and collaboration.
  • Reviews patients at least twice during each duty period and as requested by nursing staff or patients, ensuring timely interventions and quality care.
  • Liaises with consultants, counsels patients and relatives, and completes consultation requests for other medical specialties, fostering strong relationships and comprehensive care.
  • Performs procedures within capabilities, such as central venous catheter insertion and endotracheal intubation, utilizing established protocols and guidelines.
  • Prepares discharge summaries, transfer summaries, and death certificates, and refers cases to the coroner as necessary, maintaining accurate and complete records.
  • Completes notifiable disease forms, adverse drug reaction reports, and procedural details, adhering to regulatory requirements and organizational standards.
  • Participates in unit meetings, clinical reviews, and pathology/radiology meetings, and attends training lectures, staying up-to-date on best practices and advances in the field.
  • Engages in peer review and quality improvement activities, seminars, and performance management, contributing to ongoing professional development and excellence.
