Senior Video Backend Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer with expertise in video technologies to join our team. You will leverage your experience in designing and implementing scalable backend solutions for video processing features, ensuring reliability, maintainability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex backend projects that involve multiple engineers, focusing on performance improvements and migrations.
  • Work with multimedia frameworks like FFmpeg and GStreamer to manage various codecs and formats.
  • Design and implement efficient algorithms for video compression and streaming.
  • Enhance video storage, retrieval, and streaming performance through CDNs, caching, and adaptive bitrate streaming.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements, design solutions, and deliver impactful features.
  • Serve as a technical leader within the team, making thoughtful architectural decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term scalability and maintainability.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing code reviews, design feedback, and technical guidance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to enhance system reliability and customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science from a top-tier institution.
  • Over 7 years of backend software development experience, with a strong emphasis on distributed systems and video processing.
  • Proficient in backend technologies such as Python, Java, or Go, with experience in building scalable, high-performance systems.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with video technologies, including:
  • Video codecs and compression techniques
  • Multimedia frameworks like FFmpeg and GStreamer
  • Streaming protocols
  • Cloud media services
  • A proven track record of serving as a tech lead and managing complex initiatives.
  • In-depth understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design.
  • Strong experience in performance optimization, debugging, and scaling complex applications.
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the technical growth of the team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle ambiguous requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with real-time video streaming technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and experience with distributed databases and message queues.
  • Understanding of DRM and security best practices.
  • Contributions to open-source multimedia projects.
