Steel Detailer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Steel Detailer to support our operations.

The ideal candidate will have experience with detailing software (Tekla Structures, AutoCAD/Advance Steel) and strong understanding of structural and architectural steel fabrication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting architectural and structural drawings to produce accurate shop drawings and bills of materials.
  • Using detailing software to model and detail steel components.
  • Generating and organizing CNC files, bolt lists, BOM, and fabrication-ready documentation.
  • Collaborating with the project team to ensure drawings are clear, accurate, and coordinated with other trades.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing drawings and shop details to identify all materials, hardware, and consumables required for fabrication and installation.
  • Creating accurate takeoffs and preparing purchase lists for materials.
  • Coordinating with vendors to request pricing, compare quotes, and prepare purchase orders.
  • Tracking material deliveries, lead times, and costs to ensure alignment with project schedules.
  • Maintaining procurement logs and communicating regularly with project managers and shop leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Software Proficiency: Tekla Structures or AutoCAD/Advance Steel (required).
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu and Excel (required). Familiarity with Revit or Tekla EPM (FabSuite) a plus.
  • Strong understanding of structural and architectural steel fabrication.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and structural drawings.
  • Experience preparing takeoffs and bills of materials from shop drawings.
  • Good communication skills in English (written and verbal).
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
