Microsoft Purview Consultant Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Purview Consultant to drive the design, implementation, and adoption of Microsoft Purview solutions across enterprise environments. This role focuses on enabling strong data governance, security, and compliance within Microsoft 365 and Azure ecosystems.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, able to lead projects end-to-end, and bridge the gap between compliance requirements and technical execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the deployment and management of Microsoft Purview solutions for data governance, compliance, and risk management.
  2. Define and implement data classification, labeling, and protection policies across Microsoft 365, hybrid, and cloud-native environments.
  3. Configure and manage DLP, insider risk management, records management, and eDiscovery in Purview.
  4. Integrate Purview with Microsoft Defender, Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, and Exchange for end-to-end compliance enforcement.
  5. Assess current data estate, identify compliance gaps, and propose remediation strategies.
  6. Support data cataloging, lineage tracking, and metadata management to strengthen governance.
  7. Collaborate with security, compliance, and business teams to ensure alignment with regulatory standards.
  8. Prepare and deliver technical documentation, training, and adoption workshops.
  9. Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for Purview and its integrations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5–7 years of experience in Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance, Data Governance, or Information Protection.
  • Strong, practical expertise with Microsoft Purview, including Compliance Manager, DLP, Information Protection, Insider Risk, eDiscovery, and Records Management.
  • Proven track record with sensitivity labels, retention policies, and data classification frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of Microsoft 365 security and compliance capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Azure services, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange, and SharePoint Online.
  • Solid knowledge of regulatory frameworks and ability to map them into technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design scalable solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Good to Have (Preferred):

  • Microsoft Certified: Information Protection Administrator Associate or Security, Compliance & Identity Fundamentals.
  • Experience with Microsoft Defender and the wider M365 security ecosystem.
  • Exposure to enterprise-scale deployments, migrations, and compliance rollouts.
  • Knowledge of Power BI, Power Automate, and governance workflows.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
