Payment Lawyer for Amazon's Payments Business

Job OverviewWe are seeking a talented attorney to support our rapidly growing payments business. As a Payment Lawyer, you will be responsible for counseling the business on payment aggregation, bill payments, pre-paid instruments, cross-border transactions, lending, and privacy.
Key Responsibilities:- Counsel the business on a broad range of payment and regulatory matters, particularly focusing on payment aggregation business, bill payments, PPI, merchant onboarding, cross-border transactions, co-branded credit cards, and privacy.
- Work with business and tech partners to structure complex transactions, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory compliance, and offer advisory services on information security-related aspects.
- Collaborate with business teams to explore and evaluate new business opportunities in the payments space, providing guidance on regulatory compliance and facilitating the launch of new products/services.
- Draft and negotiate complicated payment, co-brand, and other commercial agreements.
- Provide ongoing legal counseling on a wide range of legal areas, including payment aggregation business.
- Engage with bank and network partners, manage customer disputes, and assist in responding to regulatory complaints.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A strong transactional and regulatory background.
- 8+ years of legal experience in the financial sector, with several years of experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house.
- Experience and skills in drafting and negotiating contracts.
- Ability to analyze and respond to regulatory and compliance matters.
- Strong legal and business judgment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and coordinate complex issues and projects with diverse levels of management and employees.
- In-house experience at a financial service company.
- Familiarity with the electronic financial services sector to counsel and assist with payments-related matters, such as merchant processing arrangements, payment association rules, banking and credit laws, and financial privacy.
- Familiarity with money service business compliance requirements, anti-money laundering rules, know-your-customer requirements, and payment aggregation regulations.
The estimated salary for this position is $150,000 - $200,000 per annum, depending on your location and experience.
