Product Development and Merchandising Specialist

This role plays a pivotal part in managing product development, merchandising, sourcing, supplier management, and logistics coordination.

  • Manage product development from material sourcing to supplier negotiations and timely production as per design specifications.
  • Ensure all raw materials, job workers, and internal/external production teams are aligned for timely delivery of production.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and partners (mills, traders, labels & tags suppliers, job workers, fabricators, garment manufacturers, etc.).

The responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing, evaluating, and presenting pre-development samples.
  • Monitoring and evaluating product performance in terms of fit, construction, and durability, making necessary adjustments.
  • Costing and negotiating with suppliers and vendors to achieve best costing without compromising on quality and timelines.
Production Planning:
  • Developing and managing production timelines and schedules to ensure timely delivery of retail products.
  • Coordinating with design and development teams to understand product specifications, materials, and production requirements.
Sourcing, Dispatch, and Payments:
  • Making bill of materials for bulk orders and production runs.
  • Visiting job workers and factories to track production on a regular basis.
  • Managing all kinds of dispatches, coordination with courier partners, invoices, and payments across all vendors.
Supplier and Vendor Management:
  • Negotiating terms and conditions with vendors to ensure cost-effective and high-quality production.
  • Monitoring vendor performance and addressing any issues related to product quality, delivery, or compliance.
Quality Control:
  • Implementing and enforcing quality control procedures to ensure products meet the company's standards and specifications.
  • Conducting inspections and overseeing testing of materials and finished products to identify and resolve quality issues.
Reporting and Coordination:
  • Coordinating and collaborating with various teams (Design, Production, Procurement, Category, etc.).
  • Keeping daily detailed logs and updates for fabric, trims, and accessories development and procurement, sampling and production status, TNA update, job work sample and production development status, and tracking raw material consumption as per BOM.

Requirements:

  • 4-5 years of experience in product development, buying, merchandising, and production in a buying house, retail brand, export house, or similar environment.
  • Experience working in startups is an added advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of fabrics, trims, and accessories and the factory supplier base.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills.
  • Strong organization skills.
