Construction Estimator Role Summary

  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects, taking into account various factors such as building economics and tendering procedures. These estimates must be accurate, detailed, and in compliance with relevant industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and review contract packages, including advice on amendments to standard forms. Ensure that all contractual agreements are legally binding and mutually beneficial.
  • Prepare pricing documents for tender packages, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. This includes reviewing and verifying the quality of submitted tenders.
  • Provide expert advice on tendering procedures and develop evaluation criteria for tender submissions. This expertise will help ensure that the best value is achieved for each project.
  • Commercially evaluate all tender submissions and negotiate with tenderers to secure the best possible deals. This involves assessing risks, identifying potential areas for improvement, and developing strategies to maximize savings.
  • Ascertain amounts due to contractors for price variations and determine valid claims. This requires a thorough understanding of contractual terms and conditions, as well as the ability to analyze complex data.
  • Contribute to monthly Cost Reports, providing valuable insights and recommendations for improvement. This involves analyzing financial data, identifying trends, and developing strategies to optimize costs.

Requirements

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent) with 5-10 years of experience in the field. Strong technical knowledge and practical skills are essential for this role.
  • Strong understanding of QS and cost management processes, including drawing interpretation. Proficiency in MS Office and IT literacy is also required.
  • Chartered QS certification from a recognized organization (e.g., RICS, SCSI, AIQS). This certification demonstrates a high level of expertise and professionalism in the field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. The ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively is crucial for success in this role.
  • Aptitude for problem-solving and ability to work under pressure. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are also essential.
