Steel Detailer Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Steel Detailer to support our operations.

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in steel detailing and modeling, with proficiency in software such as Tekla Structures or AutoCAD/Advance Steel.
Key ResponsibilitiesSteel Detailing
  1. Interpret Architectural and Structural Drawings: The successful candidate will interpret architectural and structural drawings to produce accurate shop drawings and bills of materials.
  2. Use Detailing Software: They will use detailing software to model and detail steel components, including stairs, railings, embeds, and structural steel.
  3. Generate Documentation: The candidate will generate and organize CNC files, bolt lists, BOM, and fabrication-ready documentation.
  4. Collaborate with Project Team: They will collaborate with the project team to ensure drawings are clear, accurate, and coordinated with other trades.
Procurement
  1. Review Drawings and Shop Details: The Steel Detailer will review drawings and shop details to identify all materials, hardware, and consumables required for fabrication and installation.
  2. Create Accurate Takeoffs: They will create accurate takeoffs and prepare purchase lists for materials (steel shapes, plate, pipe/tube, fasteners, weld consumables, etc.).
  3. Coordinate with Vendors: The candidate will coordinate with approved vendors to request pricing, compare quotes, and prepare purchase orders.
  4. Track Material Deliveries: They will track material deliveries, lead times, and costs to ensure alignment with project schedules.
  5. Maintain Procurement Logs: The Steel Detailer will maintain procurement logs and communicate regularly with project managers, foremen, and shop leadership.
Qualifications
  • Software Proficiency: The ideal candidate will have proficiency in Tekla Structures or AutoCAD/Advance Steel, with experience in Bluebeam Revu and Excel.
  • Understanding of Structural and Architectural Steel Fabrication: They will have a strong understanding of structural and architectural steel fabrication.
  • Attention to Detail: The Steel Detailer must be able to read and interpret complex architectural and structural drawings, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Organizational Skills: They will possess good communication skills in English (written and verbal) and be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
