The Role: Biochar Project Lead

We seek an experienced Biochar Project Lead to manage the full lifecycle of biochar projects, from identification and feasibility assessment to design, implementation, monitoring, certification, and final reporting.

This role demands a combination of technical expertise, strong project management skills, and deep knowledge of carbon certification processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Project Origination, Feasibility & Evaluation:
    • Identify and evaluate new biochar project opportunities, especially in emerging markets like Southeast Asia, India, and Africa.
    • Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and stakeholder analyses to ensure project viability.
    • Build relationships with local partners, consultants, government agencies, NGOs, and community groups to support project success.
  • Design, Implementation & Operational Management:
    • Collaborate on designing the appropriate solution per project with subject matter experts.
    • Implement biochar production systems, selecting feedstocks, equipment, and logistics.
    • Set up biochar production facilities with manufacturers, ensuring quality, safety, and sustainability goals.
    • Manage on-site operations, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Monitoring, Reporting & Verification (MRV):
    • Implement MRV processes to track carbon sequestration, emissions reduction, and environmental co-benefits.
    • Monitor and report project performance, ensuring compliance with certification standards.
  • Carbon Certification & Compliance:
    • Oversee preparation of necessary documentation for carbon certification, aligning with global standards.
    • Coordinate audits and verification processes to secure project accreditation and credit issuances.
  • Logistics, Supply Chain & Financial Management:
    • Travel to project sites, overseeing logistics for feedstock sourcing, equipment procurement, and distribution.
    • Manage project budget and financial resources, ensuring profitability while maintaining operational excellence.
    • Monitor project risks and devise mitigation strategies.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial), or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years in biochar production or similar industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong knowledge of biochar production processes, feedstock selection, and operational logistics.
    • Familiarity with carbon certification standards and MRV protocols.
    • In-depth understanding of downstream industries and their integration into revenue-generating models.
  • Project Management Skills:
    • Proven experience managing complex projects from inception to completion.
    • Able to oversee multiple aspects of project design, implementation, and operations.
  • Leadership & Training:
    • Ability to lead teams, provide training, and facilitate collaboration across functional areas.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Travel & Flexibility:
    • Willingness to travel frequently to project sites in Southeast Asia, India, and/or Africa.
Salary Estimate

$120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
