The role of an Assistant Pharmacy Manager involves overseeing the operational efficiency of a hospital's pharmacy department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management: Supervise daily pharmacy operations, including dispensing, billing, and stock management.
  • Monitor medication availability, ensuring adequate stock levels and preventing stockouts.
  • Maintain proper storage conditions for medications according to statutory regulations.
  • Oversee the movement of medications, surgical items, and consumables into and out of the pharmacy.
Procurement & Inventory Control
  • Procurement: Coordinate with suppliers to procure medications and consumables in a timely manner.
  • Implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality.
  • Identify slow-moving, near-expiry, and non-moving stocks and take corrective action.
  • Conduct regular physical stock verifications and reconcile discrepancies.
Compliance & Quality
  • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Manage records of controlled substances, psychotropic substances, and high-value medications as required by law.
  • Validate prescriptions, promote rational drug use, and maintain patient safety protocols.
Team Management
  • Leadership: Supervise pharmacists and support staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide training, guidance, and continuous learning opportunities for pharmacy staff.
  • Schedule duties and manage manpower requirements effectively.
Financial & Reporting
  • Assist in preparing pharmacy budgets and monitoring expenditures.
  • Analyze sales trends, consumption patterns, and prepare management information system (MIS) reports.
  • Support internal, external, and statutory audits, ensuring timely closure of non-conformities.

To excel in this role, candidates should possess strong knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, familiarity with accreditation requirements, and a good understanding of drug procurement, supply chain management, and inventory control.
