Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Senior Building Design Engineer to lead our engineering team. As a key member, you will be responsible for performing building analysis and design for commercial projects.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Leverage your expertise in structural analysis and design to drive innovation in building construction.
  • Develop and coordinate detailed designs, drawings, and models (Revit, CAD) for commercial buildings, ensuring constructability, cost-effectiveness, and performance.
  • Utilize modular framing systems and detailing standard welded sections to optimize fabrication and installation.
  • Conduct value engineering on existing and proposed designs to improve buildability, reduce costs, and enhance project outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical services teams to resolve interfaces, loads, and maintenance/access requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive design reports, specifications, calculation packages, and RFI responses; support tender queries as needed.
  • Participate in internal design reviews, verification/validation, and quality assurance processes.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, architects, builders, and fabricators, representing the company in meetings and workshops.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of standards, details, and BIM workflows.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • 5+ years' experience in commercial building design, preferably in the Australian sector.
  • Demonstrated expertise in seismic analysis and design.
  • Proven track record integrating structural designs with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical services.
  • Hands-on use of Revit and 2D/3D drafting/BIM systems for structural documentation.
  • Experience applying modular framing systems and detailing standard welded sections.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian codes/standards (e.g., NCC; AS/NZS 1170 incl. earthquake; AS 4100, AS 3600, AS/NZS 4600, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively with a remote team.
Technical Competencies
  • Building design (steel, concrete, secondary/supporting systems).
  • Seismic design and detailing.
  • BIM coordination and clash resolution in Revit; model federation and standards compliance.
  • Detailing of standard welded sections, platework, and connections for fabrication.
  • Interface management with mechanical equipment loads, supports, vibration, and maintenance clearances.
  • Preparation of specifications, reports, schedules, and take-offs.
