Senior Climate Change Specialist

This role is responsible for integrating climate adaptation priorities into national frameworks, ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement and national development goals.
Key responsibilities include conducting Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across sectors such as agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems, applying climate models and risk analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses, identifying and sizing adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates, evaluating techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and mapping relevant financing sources, supporting the preparation of funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting GCF, GEF, and other international mechanisms, facilitating inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups, aligning adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans, contributing to the design of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements, drafting technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences, providing policy recommendations that strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration, collaborating with public and private sector stakeholders to support implementation and resource mobilization.
Required Skills and Qualifications- Advanced Degree: Climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or related discipline
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields
- Demonstrated Involvement: Developing or updating NDCs, LT-LEDS, or NAPs, particularly in developing country contexts
- Proficiency: Conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies
- Skills: Strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways, familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs, effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.
- Prior Experience: Supporting national governments in climate strategy development
- Background: Climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles.
- Knowledge: Ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches
- Ability: Integrating gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning.
