Electrical System Designer

The Electrical Engineering Technician will play a key role in creating detailed engineering drawings for Extra High Voltage projects. They will also prepare and develop EC&I deliverables, such as Single Line Diagrams, loop drawings, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design, and switchgear configurations using 2D and 3D software packages.

Responsibilities:

• Create detailed engineering drawings for EHV projects, covering Air Insulated Substations (AIS) and Gas Insulated Substations (GIS)
• Prepare and develop EC&I deliverables, including Single Line Diagrams, loop drawings, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design, and switchgear configurations
• Develop drawings to support detailed engineering, including Land Utilisation Plan, Elevations, Above and Below Grade Conduit layouts, Grounding layout & its connection details, Lighting and Lightning protection with respective details, Bill of Materials, CDM, MEWP layouts
• Facilitate coordination of design activities across various departments, including Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission Line
• Conduct design reviews, participate in virtual meetings, and collaborate closely with clients
• Assist with preparing drawings and revising existing engineering drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts
• Responsible for adhering to company and client drafting standards and procedures
• Responsible for adhering to the drafting practices of selected discipline
• Assist in drafting design and documentation for various projects
• Coordinate with team members and monitor project schedules, ensuring submissions meet high-quality standards
• Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design
• Collaborate with colleagues on design activities
• Develop and enhance processes, tools, and potentially implement new technologies into the design process
• Periodic Quality check to be conducted for other engineers & designers
• Exhibit ingenuity, foresight, and wise decision-making skills in proactively identifying and resolving challenges
• Contribute to the progress and growth of departmental tools and workflows aimed at improving the effectiveness of design processes, specification development, and project implementation

Requirements

• Possess a Diploma or ITI in electrical engineering from an accredited institution
• Have a minimum of two years and a maximum of six years of experience in the field of Substation Transmission & Distribution, Renewable (Onshore & Offshore wind/Solar), BESS projects
• Preferably familiar with UK projects. Experience of working in a lead substation design role on National Grid Electricity Transmission projects (or other UK utilities like SSEN, SPEN etc.) in the UK will be an added advantage
• Experience in Onshore wind, Offshore wind, Renewable (solar) and BESS projects is preferred
• Familiarity with 3D tools (Revit) for Engineering design is desirable
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills
• BASIC knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field
