Senior Database Administration Specialist

As a senior database administrator, you will play a key role in the management and administration of technology in your area of specialty.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

• Analyzing existing database systems and recommending improvements
• Working with IT managers to establish database security structures and ensuring Sox compliance
• Managing and maintaining Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) clusters, ensuring high availability and performance
• Administering and monitoring Apache Kafka (open-source) clusters, including topic management, performance tuning, and security
• Performing database administration for Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL systems, including backup, recovery, and performance tuning
• Developing and maintaining automation scripts using Shell scripting and Ansible for deployment, monitoring, and configuration management
• Collaborating with data engineers and developers to optimize data pipelines and ensure data integrity across platforms
• Implementing and maintaining security best practices across all data platforms
• Troubleshooting and resolving issues across the data stack in a timely manner
• Fixing ongoing issues, acting as an individual contributor, and taking full ownership of the environment
• Creating and maintaining database access systems, including tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and triggers
• Administering database replication between servers, across Local Area Network and Wide Area Network
• Tuning and optimizing database objects
• Providing 24x7 on call support
• Providing technical input to solution development plans and concept documents
• Demonstrating understanding of business impacts of issues and how they relate to IT owned solutions
• Communicating effectively in written and verbal form in a cross-functional setting with business partners
• Sharing knowledge and actively mentoring less experienced IT administrators
• Performing and planning major version upgrades
• Designing and implementing effective monitoring of enterprise systems
• Tuning systems using experience and deep knowledge of the area
• Foreseeing risks and communicating and mitigating those before problems arise
• Documenting technical designs and procedures for team library
• Planning and managing technical projects involving other teams
• Communicating technology effectively to non-technical associates and management
• Recognizing and understanding technology impacts within the business
• Contributing to technical research on new technologies, processes or procedures with a desire to continuously learn new technologies

Requirements for this position include:

1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another relevant field AND a minimum of 6 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
2. Outstanding academics with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
3. Fluency in English is required
4. Experience with Relational or NoSQL database technologies
5. Demonstrated ability to implement new technologies effectively
6. Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a small team setting
7. Consistently demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization
8. Experience with Big Data Technologies supporting a broad variety of solutions including HDFS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Elastic, SQL Server
