Position Summary
Boston Institute of Analytics is seeking an experienced and strategic VP of Strategic Acquisitions (EdTech M&A, Tech Investment Banking) to lead our acquisition strategy. This role will focus on identifying and acquiring EdTech startups that align with our growth objectives, technological vision, and target customer base. The ideal candidate will have a track record of sourcing valuable acquisition opportunities, especially within distressed or undercapitalized startups, and structuring deals that are both cost-effective and strategically beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
- Acquisition Strategy Development:
- Define and implement a comprehensive acquisition strategy that aligns with our organizational goals and enhances our product roadmap.
- Identify and target EdTech startups with complementary technology, customer base, and products to expand our market reach.
- Deal Origination and Pipeline Management:
- Proactively source, assess, and build a pipeline of potential acquisition targets, with a focus on underperforming or distressed EdTech startups that support our business strategy.
- Build and nurture relationships with founders, advisors, and stakeholders within the EdTech ecosystem.
- Due Diligence and Valuation:
- Lead comprehensive due diligence processes to assess financial health, customer metrics, technology stack, and overall strategic fit of target companies.
- Analyze financial statements, customer acquisition metrics, and revenue trends to establish valuation and acquisition suitability.
- Deal Structuring and Negotiation:
- Develop creative, cost-effective deal structures, such as debt assumption, licensing, or earn-outs that minimize initial cash outlays.
- Negotiate favorable terms that enhance long-term value while managing legal, financial, and operational risks.
- Integration Planning and Execution:
- Design and execute comprehensive post-acquisition integration plans to ensure smooth operational alignment and cultural integration.
- Collaborate with product, marketing, and customer success teams to successfully transition acquired products, customers, and technology.
- Market Research and Competitive Analysis:
- Monitor EdTech market trends, competitor strategies, and emerging technologies to identify new acquisition opportunities.
- Provide insights to the executive team on how strategic acquisitions can enhance our competitive positioning within the industry.
Qualifications
- Experience: 4-8 years in M&A, corporate development, or strategic acquisitions, ideally with expertise in EdTech, SaaS, or digital content sectors.
- Track Record: Proven success in sourcing and closing acquisitions, with experience in managing distressed asset acquisitions and creative deal structuring.
- Financial Expertise: Strong analytical skills with expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and due diligence.
- Negotiation Skills: Highly skilled negotiator with experience in structuring favorable deals, understanding legal contracts, and managing complex negotiations.
- Industry Insight: In-depth knowledge of the EdTech landscape, including industry trends, major players, and growth drivers.
- Leadership and Communication: Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence C-level stakeholders.
