Role SummaryThe Engineering Manager – Complex Programs is responsible for leading cross-functional engineering teams to deliver large-scale, highly complex programs involving multiple systems, stakeholders, and dependencies. This role blends technical leadership, people management, and program execution to ensure delivery on time, within scope, and to quality standards.Key ResponsibilitiesProgram & Delivery LeadershipLead end-to-end execution of complex, multi-team engineering programs with high technical and organizational complexityOwn program planning, milestones, dependencies, risks, and delivery commitmentsPartner with Product, Architecture, Operations, and Business stakeholders to align priorities and outcomesDrive trade-off decisions balancing scope, timeline, cost, and technical qualityTechnical LeadershipProvide technical direction and architectural guidance across teamsReview designs and ensure adherence to engineering standards, scalability, reliability, and security requirementsGuide teams through complex technical problem-solving and system-level thinkingEnsure technical debt is identified, prioritized, and managed effectivelyPeople Management & Team DevelopmentManage, mentor, and grow engineering managers and/or senior engineersFoster a high-performance, inclusive, and accountable engineering cultureConduct performance reviews, career development planning, and coachingEnsure appropriate staffing, skill development, and succession planningExecution & Operational ExcellenceEstablish and improve engineering processes (Agile, SDLC, DevOps, etc.)Monitor delivery metrics, engineering health, and operational KPIsProactively identify risks and implement mitigation strategiesEnsure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and quality standardsStakeholder CommunicationCommunicate program status, risks, and outcomes to senior leadershipTranslate complex technical topics into clear business insightsInfluence without authority across teams and organizational boundariesRequired QualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field11–16 years of engineering experience, including 3–5+ years in engineering managementProven experience leading large-scale, complex, cross-functional programsStrong background in system design and architectureExperience working in Agile / hybrid delivery environmentsPreferred QualificationsExperience managing managers (Manager-of-Managers role)Background in distributed systems, platforms, or large enterprise productsProgram management or delivery certification (PMP, SAFe, etc.)Experience working with global or distributed teamsKey Skills & CompetenciesStrategic thinking and execution excellenceStrong technical judgment and systems thinkingExceptional stakeholder management and communication skillsRisk management and decision-making under ambiguityCoaching mindset and people leadershipSuccess MetricsOn-time and high-quality delivery of complex programsEngineering team engagement and retentionReduction in delivery risk and technical debtStakeholder satisfaction and business impact
