The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of various wood types, fabrics, furniture specifications, and finishes. This role involves providing precise cost estimation, budgeting, and financial oversight for projects involving wood and furniture elements within an engineering consultancy context.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation and Financial Management:
- Develop accurate cost estimates by obtaining quotations from multinational companies for wood and furniture-related projects, including detailed breakdowns of materials, labor, and overheads.
- Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to optimize project expenditures.
- Material and Specification Expertise:
- Analyze and specify types of wood (e.g., hardwood, softwood, engineered wood) and their applications in furniture and architectural elements.
- Evaluate fabrics and materials used in furniture upholstery, ensuring alignment with project specifications and client requirements.
- Recommend and assess paint finishes and other surface treatments used in the wood and furniture industries.
- Tendering and Contract Management:
- Prepare, issue, and manage tender documentation for subcontractors and suppliers related to wood and furniture projects.
- Review and evaluate tender submissions, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Administer and monitor contracts, addressing any issues or discrepancies that arise.
- Project Coordination and Support:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and designers to ensure seamless integration of wood and furniture elements into overall project plans.
- Monitor project progress, manage variations, and handle change orders in line with client expectations and contractual agreements.
- Provide technical advice and support on material selection, specifications, and best practices.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive records of project costs, variations, and financial transactions.
- Prepare regular financial reports and forecasts for senior management and stakeholders.
- Ensure all project documentation, including contracts, agreements, and correspondence, is accurate and up to date.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, specifically within the wood and furniture industries.
- Proven track record in cost estimation, budgeting, and contract management for projects involving wood and furniture.
- Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of various wood types, fabric materials, and furniture specifications.
- Familiarity with paint finishes and surface treatments used in the industry.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in estimating software, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project), and relevant industry tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
